Here’s some images of Mike Kelley’s works. We used him as a corrective to the view that all life is happy and we can just believe in ourselves.

This guy is a great example of so-called “new revelation.” Scary stuff.
Here’s his Wikipedia entry, his church and a fun list of others who have claimed to be Jesus.

Unicorns!
October 24, 2008 · 3 Comments
Yes, unicorns.
Numbers 23:22: God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.
Numbers 24:8: God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
Deuteronomy 33:17: His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.
Job 39:9-10: Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Psalm 22:21: Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
Psalm 29:6: He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
Psalm 92:10: But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
Isaiah 34:7: And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

Politics and Utilitarianism
September 12, 2008 · 19 Comments
In class we were talking about the happy connections between the hedonistic calculus and politics. This will be looking at political articles and seeing if this is true or not.
1. Go to RealClearPolitics.com.
2. Check out any of the stories written on there.
3. Come back here and write up a summation of your findings, if there seems to be a link between utilitarian ideas or not. You might need to give a quick summary of the article for context.
4. Reply to at least one other student, and to keep everything under control use the @ sign and their name (like this: @Heather, for example).
…and go!

September 5, 2008 · 28 Comments
Think of one film that embraces an aspect or branch of existentialism. Tell us what characteristics of the film
led you to think this. This could be the way it was shot, the characters, plot, dialogue, etc. Then respond to at least one other student about their views. Feel free to agree or disagree, or just offer an extension of their thoughts. This is due by Tuesday, September 9.
